4.3 mercruiser problems

i bought a boat from my buddy yesterday, it has a 4.3 mercruiser in it. after we run it hard for a while it starts to get fuel in the oil. took it to a shop and they keep telling us nothing wrong with it. any help u guys could give me i would appreciate it.

You might be a little more specific.

is it fuel injected/carbed, what year, serial number, drive.....

If it's carbed, look at the clear hose that goes from the fuel pump to the carb. does it appear to have any liquid in it?

Is there a hose from the pump to the carb at all?

I have the same problem, my celebrity has a 4.3 mercruiser. The oil is really thin, shows way over full on the dipstick and smells of gas. A lot of posts I see people say its the diaphram in the fuel pump?

i too think i have the same problem on my 4.3. it shows high on the dipstick and smells like fuel after one day of having it on the lake after oil change.

in my limited but humble experience... the fuel pump is a good place to start - especially if it seems to be running ok. If it is reunning really ritch, you might look down the carb to see if you can see gas running down into the intake - debris in the needle valves or sunk float can do that sort of thing. Either way, don't run it with the oil so diluted...

Ayuh,... If you guys have Mechanical fuel pumps,.... You need a New 1....
If they're Electric,... You've got other problems...

A lot of posts I see people say its the diaphram in the fuel pump?

Have you looked into replacing it yet?

as for mine it is electric. if yours is electric i would say carb. i think thats wat ima do first is rebuild mine. it runs excellent... has some small probs cold starting but other than that runs awsome. warms starts good cruising down the lake sounds good an smooth. wide open is awsome. mine has a very very small hesitation when the 4bbl opens. my boat sat for ab 2 years b4 i bought it and took it out on the lake. so i think alot of my prob might be the carb leaking raw gas down into the motor. might be the same prob ur dealing with
