wot timing

im going to put a new link assy, on the timing adanace. i got to reset the timing. i was going to set the idel timing here at the house on a hose. then go to the lake and set the wot timing. what is the best way to do this i havent never set the timing on outboards i have many times on cars dont sound safe eather

We'll assume this is the V6 looper that had the broken adjuster. Hard to see the motor from way over here. The wide open timing should not have changed unless you moved the stop screw. Just set the idle so it idles about 1100 or so out of the water and out of the Quick Start mode. Once in the water it should idle about 650 in gear. It'll idle higher out of the water because there is no backpressure.
