I'm (perhaps foolishly) considering hauling a 1979 21 foot CruiseCraft" with a closed bow and walk through windshield home tomorrow or the next day. The transom is solid, but I'm betting the deck and probably some below needs to be rebuilt / replaced. I've got our little open bow i/o to ski and play, but would be setting this one up to fish in the sounds and inlets, troll for kings on nice days, etc...
The hull appears to be in decent shape - no breaches into the cloth from the outside, the little "cabin" area is a bit of a mess, but i would gut it and turn it into compartmentalized storage. The hull has a fairly deep, sharp v up front and a fairly broad beam for a boat that size with a lot of open room from the cabin / compartment back. I'm guessing it would it would handle relatively rough water fine (rough as in the sound or inlet on a reasonable day - not rough as in high wind or open ocean, etc.....) If I redo it, I'm thinkin I might move the deck up a few inches when I put it back together and seal the bilge area off (with hatches...), vent it out the back to make it self bailing. mount a relatively large fuel tank down the center and fill a healthy portion of the sides under the deck with foam (to the point where it is well over what is required for positive overall boyancy). Then watch for a good sized outboard to mount on the back.
I'm probably going to bring it home for the decent tandem axle trailer underneath it if nothing else... and am paying litlle more than the hassle and gas of picking it up. It comes with controls, steering that is in decent shape, etc... and would need a coat of paint to top it all off.
Anybody have any experience with these or thoughts? Thanks in advance...
