A Very Effective Carb Cleaning Technique

This is how I clean ANY CARB.
I don't like using all the harsh chemicals nor do I like breathing the fumes so here is what I do. Tear the carb apart and set aside any plastic parts, rubbber parts etc (i.e. floats, diaphrams, etc). Now go to the grocery store and get you a big bottle of lemon juice, now aquire you a hot plate and a pot big enough for the carb body, float bowl, etc to fit in. Put all the parts in the pot and fill with enough lemon juice to submerge the Carb. Now fire up the burner and bring to a boil, let it boil approx 20-30 minutes. Remove the carb parts let them cool on a towel, then hose em off and blow dry. That carb will come out looking brand new, this is cheaper than any carb dip and works a heck of alot better on seriously dirty carbs, Now reassemble your carb and go.

CAUTION: If you are married DO NOT perform this procedure in the house with your wifes prized POTS..............................DON'T ASK......LOL This is the purpose for the hot plate I mentioned earlier.

Lemon juice not really a mild chemical...

it has a pH of 2 and will etch metal....

I think if you add a little detergent, vinegar will do the same thing... as would somewhat diluted hydrochloric acid (5 or 10 to 1 in water).

although... I've got a carb to finish cleaning this weekend...

We were in Lake Powell and a friend of ours just boiled the heck out of the thing in water and a touch of soap and it cleaned it up real nice.

Worked great, except at 100* outside having the burners running inside... was not a great thing.

Thing ran like a charm after that... It is great when you have a real mechanic around...

Most carbs you DO NOT want to soak them in carb cleaner over night. I can't imagine boiling 1 in lemonaid :)

I think it's an epidemic around here...

I dragged another "boat" home this morning...

btw, my holly 750 double pumper is soaking in my own brew of gentle carb cleaner... all week and comes out this weekend for the rest of the rebuild. (it didnt have to soak that long, I just haven't had time to mess with it).

What is this brew you speak of?? I just don't like using those dips, I bought some one time, MAC'S I think, but man that stuff was harsh, it took my breath away, so I try to do it the all natural way.
