1985 Johnson 40 hp new impeller no water discharge

original problem was had no water coming out the pee hole. After reading all the great forums here I learned how to change the impeller and also fix the 4 broken bolts!!! Any ways, has new impeller and still no water up top. I dont think its installed wrong. Could it be a thermostat? and how do I snap those bolts - I mean get at it to check. Any help would make my day

have you checked to see if tale tell hose is blocked, critters love to live in there. weedeater string works well to run up the hose. the tale tell shows the pump is pumping, not that the tstats are opening and cooling the motor.

Is that the hose that runs from the top discharge to the side of the engine?
Or up thru the lower housing?

TellTale hose=Pee hole - (inside piping) run a wire through there to see if it is blocked up.

These motors have bypass passages to allow some circulation even with T-stat closed.

Was the old impeller broken apart? If so, the pieces are in the water passages and need to be cleaned out.

Looks like you need a head gsaket to check/change the T-stat on this model. 14 screws to remove.

it is the hose that runs thru the lower cowl. from back should be right side.

afyrftr - sent you a PM - I have the same engine - just curious what resource you found to be the best for learning how to make the repair and from where did you purchase the parts. And did you end up solving the problem completely? Thank you.
