Monster truck/ Pontoon boat?

I know a truck will float on water, assuming the wheels are big enough, they act like pontoons. The bigfoot monster truck proved this in the 80's. So if you had a truck with 4 ft tires or so, and it floated, you could drive down the boat ramp and start floating. Then you get in the bed, and put an outboard on the tailgate. lol

I think that really would work OK.

I could see the motor pushing the suspension of the truck, and the tires kinda getting pulled back in the water. But You could probally have a little fun with that. And when you hit less than 4 ft of water, start up the truck and drive!

Idk what DNR police would think.

The tires would have to be so wide that you could not come close to driving it on the street. They would not be street legal either. I offroad quite a bit and several guys I run with have 44's and they are nowhere near floating. We go pretty deep in water too.

Yea, you could not drive on the road, maybe if you lived next to the water, use it to off road there, and keep driving into the river.

Or tie a few pontoons under your regular truck.

There is a guy here and on his signature he has a link to a video where someone did something similar to what you are talking about. If I find it I will post the link. Hopefully he chimes in and shows it to you. (I don?t know his user name)

the only reason they know they float is because they were trying to sink the back 2 of bigfoots wheels, and they just would not sink. He was just trying to get stuck on the bank, but ended up floating down the river.

Yep, calculated the floatation of 44" boggers once, about 650# of floatation per tire so only 2600# per set of 4........... My Samurai would just BARELY float with 44" boggers, I know it would barely sink with 38" swampers.

Maybe those same tires on a light El Camino Will float it?

Put a spare under the bed, and that will give you another 500 pounds floatation.

Did you have to cut the fenders on that Samurai?
How big a lift were you running?
I bet it did not get stuck very often. I had not even thought about a small vehicle with 44's. All the guys I go "play" with have full size Broncos, K5 Blazers or fullsize trucks.

how about taking an I/O boat, and putting wheels on it and using a transfer case to switch between using the engine to turn the wheels and the prop?

there wasn't too much fender left to cut :D. I Flipped the axles to gain 5" off lift and cut the rust out and slapped the 38's on it off my Bronco and played around all summer with it like that. I also have 6.5:1 transfercase gears and a 1.6L 8v tracker engine. They rubbed if it flexed too much but now I have it setup with 32x9.5x15 Swampers and use it from rock crawling/trail riding, it STILL goes through more than my Full Size bronco did on 38's with the 32's.

bass, both of those are what i was talkin about. True floating monster truck.

But the video of the car, that is a cool idea too, they made the car body float like a boat hull. Just made sure the car underbody would displace enough water to float.

I always thought this:
"it's a shame I have to maintain 2 engine's. My truck engine, and my boat engine. What If I could use the same engine for both?"

Kinda like having one battery for a cordless drill and a saw.
