Good Day All:
I've searched and was unable to find a thread on this topic.
I have a 1975 Johnson 50ESL75B that I'm doing a powerhead swap on. There's what appears to me as an exhaust manifold between the lower unit and the powerhead. I thought that's where the powerhead would separate, so that's where I inserted screwdrivers, prybars, and other unsightly implements like tire spoons. So, I might have dinged it a little trying to remove the powerhead. I have the two quarter-inch bolts out of the rear, but the steering arm and its two rubber-mounted components are still attached (there are three bolts holding it down). From what I can see the gasket doesn't look too bad, but I think I should replace it. I'd be grateful for some advice on removing the manifold. Can you help?
Also, the donor powerhead's flywheel has a small chip of material out of it above the teeth so I'm wondering about its balance. The other flywheel is flawless. Should I swap them?
Thank You.
