I used to watch it when John was working on ordinary people's boats and doing relatively inexpensive projects.

Now he has done exactly what Bob Vila did: Big bux projects on big bux boats. Boring.

If that is the case then I have no need to watch it !!!!

Same here.

I used to watch it 10 years ago but his recent stuff is all about how he strokes a check to pay someone else to do work for him on his high dollar boats... and all the time he's going on and on about his sponsors.

Strictly a commercial enterprise nowadays.

If it happens to be on when I'm around, I'll watch it just to see how people with money spend their time. I don't usually need to know how to fiberglass my hull, re-power from a gasser to a diesel or add a fly bridge - with all the electronics - but occasionally they offer some handy hints. Like how to drill into fiberglass. So, yes I watch it.

Pleasure Boater is more realistic IMO, althought they do some high dollar stuff. Hell, I can't afford the tenders on some of those "boats."

I'll have to agree that it was more for the average guy when it first started and I watched it every week. I still watch it sometimes. It's byond my price range and abilities, but is interesting and occasionally gives some good pointers.

What channel airs these boat shows? I've never heard of either.

They no longer offer it in my area. I would watch the pod casts if they had them but it sounds like they are losing touch with their fan base anyways. Pleasure Boater is pretty much a shameless shill for advertisers but on rare occasion has something interesting. While I get that sponsors are where the money is at, it's kinda a pity that things naturally trend in that direction.

Sham-wow with a prop show :D

LMAO , that is accurate !

10 minutes of almost interesting content , heavily laced with references to sponsors and thier products , sprinkled amongst 20 minutes of their sponsors commercials .
Bears a striking resemblance to an interview with a NASCAR driver , for crying out loud .

It gets my vote for best infomercial . :D

Totally agree with this. I caught a "classic" episode the other day. He's working on a double rudder system for a 57 foot Costabunch. Can't remember for sure but I'd swear he said one rudder was costing $2k to have remade. Cripes, that's more than double what I spent for boat, motor, and trailer.

The host of that show is about as entertaining as a box of rocks.

Agreed but I think Pleasure Boater's host is worse. The show the other day, about installing an autopilot, he sat leaned back in a chair and never moved. Looked VERY sloppy and unprofessional.
