My paint is dull ?????

Hey I have a 87 Glastron Conroy what is the best thing to use to make the boat look good angain and really make it shine ?

That depends on what is causing the dull gelcoat. Most likley it is oxidation and that is best taken care of with a variable speed polisher (not buffer) and a good polishing compound. Some like 3M and other's like other stuff. I have used the 3M polishing compund as well as turtle wax polish. Try a small area with the compound and the polisher. If it isn't working well, you can try to wet sand with 1000 or 2000 grit. Be careful though as who knows how thick the gelcoat is. If you sand, you need to polish after that.

When you are all done, wax it several times with a good carnuba wax. I use the 3M for that as well.

bhammer is correct.....

if the boat is NOT painted....but the factory gellcoat.....chances are it is oxidised.....

there are several products that can take care of that.....3m as said.

this is another method........

1. wash boat with industrial toilet bowl cleaner....(no...im not kidding) avalabile from any wholesale janoitorial supplier.

2. using FARECLA (promounced fair-eck-la ) 200 compound...on slow speed and the sponge applicator work farecla into the gellcoat in 5 foot sections....allow the sponge pad to really work the compound in....

3. you will see the sponge pad turn color of the boat....wash often.

4. using a polishing bonnet.....at a slightly higher speed polish the area....keep the bonnett moving fast across the hull....but at a med slo speed.......do the boat.

5 using farecla glaze.....repeat.....

the glaze is a type of gellcoat sealant so DO not wax...

i have personally turned 40 year old boats into a show room shine with this process......just today we did a 90 arriva.....that boat had a mirror shine when we were done....wow....wear your sunglasses!

You are correct Oops, Farecla is some good stuff.

Armymike, you can get it off the marnine webpage at http://www.fareclamarine.com/ You may find them local but I never have been able to. As oops said, you will need the spoung pad. And the wool pads and the variable speed polishing tool. It has been a while since I used their products but they were good, but you pay for it too.
