Trying to replace waterpump impeller and I can't get the lower unit off. I was able to disconnect the shift rod at the coupler and the only thing I can see still attached are the drive shaft and water tube. Shouldn't these just pull out of the pump housing or am I missing something? Is corrosion my problem, I don't want to force the issue and break something? Any tips I'd appreciate. I've changed a few of these and never had this problem before. Thanks

drive shaft, and shift shaft, stay in the lower unit, water tube stays in the leg. there are no hidden bolts. start a bolt on each side of the lower to catch the lower, remove spark plugs and vigoriously shake the flywheel back and forth, 99% you have rust in the drive shaft/crank shaft splines.

Does it move at all? Could be the driveshaft stuck in the crank or water tubes stuck in the grommets. If the shift rod is disconnected, it should come out. May take a little muscle to get it loose.

Thanks Folks
I'll try to shake that flywheel as soon as this weather will let me. I figured it to be some sort of corrosion issue. I'll let you know. Thanks again
