Battery type for a IO?

Hello, I'm new to boating, I just purchased a 96' Chriscraft Volvo 3.O IO. It has a older looking deep cell battery in the boat. When starting sometimes it's tough and is gets the clicking, then usually starts. I was thinking I should have a Car/cranking battery not a deep cell in there? I also have a auto bilge pump. I was going to replace this battery, what type do I get (cranking or deep cell)? I've read about some dual types, how do they work?... is that the way to go?

your deep cell will struggle to drive the motor, get a marine starting (has the top posts) and you should be fine. If you spend a lot of time on the lake listening to music, running the lights, or using a trolling motor, then you may want to consider a backup deep cycle.

My suggestion is always install the largest capacity battery you have room for. You cannot install too much capacity, just too little. In your case you have no real high current draw items so a standard Marine Starting battery is ok.
