I had a mechanic get this engine running really nice. I went out to start it up and it almost started and now it will not start. I have a feeling the spark plugs are fouled. He replaced them and that is when it ran great. What causes fouled spark plugs in such a short time? Can I get a different spark plug (hotter perhaps?) that will not foul as fast?

Thank you for your help.

What plugs did he put in?
It should have AC MR43T plugs.
Are you sure you did not flood the engine?
What is your starting procedure?

Gary,

Thank you for the reply. I will check on the plugs and replace with the right ones. Yes, I do think there is a chance it flooded, but even after waiting a day it still did not start. That is why I suspect it is the plugs.

That's not a trimmer motor, it's just a truck engine with marine parts bolted on!

It's probably not the plugs. Even if they're incorrect, the difference from one to the next isn't going to be enough to foul them to where the engine won't start.

If they're fouling, the fuel mix could be off, caused by any number of things. Leaking, poorly adjusted or plugged up carburetor is a very common cause.

Definitely check the plug part number, but be aware that you're very likely dealing with a different issue.

What did the old plugs look like? If they were black and fouled you may be back here again once the new ones foul.

Hopefully it was the carb cleaning that did the trick for him..

I have the same engine and the carb is wasted. my buddy that owns the boat doesnt maintain it and the carb was rusted and full of junk. so i installed a rebuild kit, cleaned everything as best i could, and it will barely idle and wont run high rpm unless we pump the throttle and use the accelerator pump.
i cant seem to find the carb anywhere.

sierra doesnt make a replacement. anyone have any great rebuilding places they've had luck with?
