was working on the steering cable last night, and looked at the bottom of the transom, right where it would start to go under the boat. it has about a nickel size chip out of the top white coating, exposing clear material underneath. what would i use to replace that white coating?

Re: transom

Epoxy works very well. You can pick up small tubes of it just about anywhere. Look for marine stuff.

Re: transom

Bondo makes a Marine Epoxy Stick that works even under water. Most hardware stores have it or can get it. You cut off a chunk and knead it real good and stick it to the damaged surface and smooth out. The more you smooth it out the less sanding you will have to do ;)

If you want a pure white repair look for Marine Tex putty which is two part epoxy but dries white.
