Well, the jig is up. Just sent some pics the other day on the post about "showing your box"...
I not only showed my box, but my other box and then where I kept my box's...
In the background in my garage is my TR-3. Stripped and naked, no doors, fenders, hood, motor...nothing but the body shell. Didn't quite look like my avatar when it was completed a few years back.
I got tired of it being a little "trailer queen" that could only be taken to shows. God forbid it got driven and a rock chip showed up on that pristine snout, thats at least a 10 point deduction.....
Anyway, I think you get the point. Those cars love to be driven and are a ball. The new motor is already built..yep BL big block from a TR-4 with some oversize jugs. Nice warmed over camshaft and new rockers, bigger valves and a beautiful pair of Weber carbs all ready to bolt on.
No more 50 yr. old transmission gears to break either. TR fanatic from California has made a new bellhousing and bits to hook up a Toyota tranny It's getting new rack and pinion steering, also from the later TR's.
Just dumped the skinny wire wheels and installed some Panasport road wheels. The BF Goodrich 215-65's will surely help the cornering.
The body needs to be lifted off the frame and some gussets welded in. Then the steering, then the motor and tranny and then a fresh coat of Signal Red paint.
I promised momma this would be done this year.....
Wish me luck!!

Re: New Avatar

Victoria British and I were real good friends about 20 years ago..... you know you order a bunch when they recognize your voice  I have frame up restored/rebuilt 3 spitfires over the years. Everytime I see one I still stop and think....... it's addictive.

I had Whitworth wrenches, taps and dies....... even hand held bearing scrapers. The oldest motor I did was a 52 MG with a friend.... all original!

Ahhhh reminds me of the "old country" I had a Sunbeam Alpine, MGB GT, MG TC and my all time favorites were the mini's. Last one was a rotted out Mini Cooper "S" that I spent about 3 years renovating and rebuilding.

Re: New Avatar

My punishment was when two of my teen daughters had '60-something Spridgets at the same time. They were sooo cute and sooo much fun to drive I spent every Sunday morning for about three years providing health care.

My reward was when the dealer for whom I was part-time wrenching took back a '59 XK150S with a spun main. I did the warranty work and bought it for $2K (this was 1959). I loved her but just couldn't afford to keep her; an oil change was 12Qt. of Castrol R and she sucked down the premium at an alarming rate. I did get to drive her for three months, then sold her for $3K.

Ahhhh yes...keep em coming!! I love the stories and really love these cars..in a sick kind of way. My mom was a war bride, from England. In high school I drove a 56 mga, shortly after owned a 61. I ran with a crowd that drove and autocrossed these things and those TR's always had a little more power. The one in my pic I have owned since 79. I have ran the gamut; spitfire, another tr-3. tr-6 and one I wish I still owned an 81 tr-8 with a factory small block aluminum v-8. I will end up with another version of one of those again!
Bob, I have used The Roadster Factory and British Parts NW for most of my parts. I have contacts to some wrecking yards that still have these cars.
And Ken, if that mini was a 1275 it would have been a fast little beast.
Ahh JB, a pair of them?? Both running at the same time?? My God, man, what were you thinking...
And arabian, thats a sweet chrome bumper (the best) mgb....
