last season (about October) my starter went out on my 1983 3.0L OMC 4cyl I/O. I took the old starter out and bought a new one. I took a picture of the old starter before I took it off, so I new what wire went to where when I put the new starter on.

Fast forward to today. I had had the new starter sitting on the shelf since last December and NOW, I finally went out, uncovered the boat and bolted it up in there.....ok, so now I have to reconnect all the wiring, so I go to the computer and look for the picture....uhm, its not there!! "hey honey, do you remember deleting a picture of an engine?" Of course, she knows NOTHING....

So, I now need help, becuase I can't remember which wire goes to which terminal and so on....does anyone have a photo they can share or lay this out in text, so that I may reassemble the correct wiring sequence and spots....PLEASE?

Re: Need help rewiring the new starter

Doc,

Thanks for the reply, but the diagram is for a Merc and I have an OMC.

The wiring it is very close, but slightly different. There are four wires I have to work with.... a purple w/blk stripe, a yellow w/red stripe, and two solid red thicker wires that come from two inline booties on a bracket behind and above the starter.

My positive from the battery goes to a block with a whole bunch of wires coming from it and the negative from the battery is bolted to the block. I have pictures, but I have no idea how to load them so you can see
