been having issues, motors been flooding out really easily. pulled the plugs today. the left 2(looking from the back) are covered in oil. the right side are clean(no water).

im not sure if its just fowled, or if its a mixing issue?(oil injected) im thinking maybe just stepping up to alittle hotter plug may fix it?

we have to pretty much idle for about a mile to get out of a channel and into an area that we can ski at. i know 2 strokes dont like to idle, but wouldnt both sides get the oil soaked plugs?

thanks for the help.

if it were me, i would check compression and spark on all cylinders, before i did anything else, if all good, i would say carbs are need of attention. i assume this is a carb motor, not a FICHT.

here are some pics(taken with cell phone cam) the one where you can see my hand is the "oiled" plug, the other is from the cleaner side. then pictures of the cowling, and each side of the motor.

does this thing have 4 carbs? ive tried to find the manuel on this motor. but evinrude doesnt store it online. any ideas? thanks again.

I believe it just has two. One carb controls two cylinders. Those plugs look a little rich. You are mixing 50 to 1 right?.

OMC Service manuals are avail ar Marineengine.com. Have the model number ready when you order.
It sounds very much like the two port side carbs are misadjusted. You have 4 carbs, and two two-barrel throttle bodies, BTW. Have you checked the idle enrichment device, for proper setting?

My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 (big brother to your motor) will idle all day without incident. I would expect your motor to be the same. Those 60* loopers are very good engines.

its just been hard to start up a few times, other then that no problems, runs good at idle and at running rpm. just has been easy to flood lately.

Re: evinrude 115 oil soaked plugs

took the plugs out, replaced them. went out again, and it would flood if i would come off plane then idle down for a few seconds, turn it off to get a skier in the water and try to start it back up.

im wondering if the motor has a cleanout if it gets flooded? if i was to hit the throttle down all the way and try to start it would it clean out similar to a car?

right now i end up sitting there for 5 minutes at a time waiting for it to get back to a point of being not flooded. i found what i take to be the mixture screw on the front of the carb. i just dont know enough about this engine to mess with it, i had an 81 johnson 35 that was open and easy to adjust. this one is alot more cramped.

so any ideas on which way i should move the screw?(not going to go crazy just like 1/8 of a turn stuff) and also if it does become flooded(can smell gas) how i can easily clean it out so i dont just sit?

thanks.

heres a picture of the front of the motor, i was thinking that the red thing in the pic is the mixture screw, but it will only turn 1 way(counter clockwise) and is bottomed out clockwise. ideas?

thanks for any help.

you have same carbs i do, mixture screw is to the left of the carb throats and under the brass jet. You have one on each carb.

so the thing im pointing at in the picture? just so im 100% sure. im not sure if its the mixture or not so not gonna play with it. i think its just flooding itself, due to fuel under the carbs. the plugs didnt look fouled when i just pulled them. so who knows..

Re: evinrude 115 oil soaked plugs

I'd get the shop manual before twiddling with screws.
They don't turn themselves out of adjustment.
And I'd do as Tash advises, rebuild carbs with kits.
www.outboardbooks.com

another possible cause for oil fouled plugs is air leak in the fuel lines somewhere. Use a flashlight and pump bulb firm to pressurize the system.
Does the bulb hold pressure (engine not running).

Problem is, you don't know if its flooding with fuel or oil fouled.
The vro will pump faster if theres a fuel leak which introduces air to the vro.
That causes oil fouling and makes for harder restarts.
