I have a 1995 Mariah, Mercruiser 4.3L, Alpha One. I had major service work done to it this past off season - carb. rebuilt, water pump replaced, and "winterized" for the first time since I have owned it...some 4 years now. This past weekend I took it to the lake for the first time. Before putting it in the water, I hooked the waster hose up and flushed the anti freeze then took it for a ride. No problems at all. It ran great and performed flawlessly.
When I got back on land I noticed white grease on the "left/right" pivot point of the outdrive (just below a rubber boot that appears to accomodate the tilt). I wiped it off, hooked the water hose back up and ran the engine. Soon enough the grease started flowing again. Am I over re-acting to greasing of the various bearings during "winterization" or do I have a real problem?
Any advise or guidance is greatly appreciated!
