there are 3 rubberized bolts holding the board with modules and coils against the engine block, they seem to break alot....has anyone just replaced them with bolts?

Does anyone think the bolts will transfer too much vibration to the board?

Thanks!!

I wouldn't replace the lord mounts with a bolt because it would transfer too much vibration to the board, breaking soldier joints. If the board is potted[ encased in a rubber coating ] it wouldn't be as bad ,but I wouldn't take the chance . My 2 cents worth.By the way, mercedes diesel air cleaner lord mounts work GREAT for mounting such things, and you can get them in different thread sizes too. moparman

As long as your wire connections are not subject to excessive vibration there really isn't any real issue with vibrations causing any issues from not using the rubber vibration dampeners. The cdi modules are solid state as well as having their electronics set in epoxy within their casings. I see no reason why vibration would affect the coils unless your spark plug wire is removable from it as are the early and mid 90's year models. Vibration could possibly cause the plug wire to vibrate loose from the coil.
I think the reason Force chose to install the rubber dampers had more to do with keeping the ignition bracket attached to the engine block due to loosening bolts then having to do with protecting the components themselves. Notice Force installed two large lock washers on each bracket mount to help prevent the bolts and nuts from lossening.
Should you choose to not use the rubber dampeners just be sure you install a bolt long enough to provide proper clearance between the modules and the engine block itself as well as a couple drops of thread lock where the mounting bracket bolts are threaded into the block

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your post....considering the cost of those rubberized bolts..($23) I did opt for the bolt solution...lockwashers and nuts at powerhead, and ingition board....

I just wonder why they spent the extra $$ in manufacturing instead of the cheaper bolt route.

You can re-glue the rubber shock mounts if you use a high quality industrial cement--after all, they were glued to start and usually it is the metal to rubber joint that fails.

As far as vibration, don't worry: Some of the early Chryslers used coils and CD boxes mounted directly on to the head with just a little rubber grommet in the bolt holes.

Wow...23 dollars for the those dampeners. You should jump on em..that's last years prices. Can't imagine what they want for them now and in my neck of the woods. 30...35...maybe 40 dollars..?
I did what Frank suggested...and glued them back together with Zap a Gap.

Ideally what you want to spend is about $1.97 each. Here is how to do it.
Go to www.McMasterCarr.com and search/type in: Vibration Damping Mounts or simply type in the following part no. 9376K43.
They will ship to any local business address you give them and they are very fast with getting this stuff done. Do it all on line, order a spare if you like and ba-da-bing.
Anyways, that will give you the part that will work. I replaced (3) this way....all good, completely plug and play with no problems.
Good Luck,;)
