I have a 1984 Mercury 150hp that has served me well for many years, but over the holiday weekend one of the power packs went out i found out what it was and replaced it the next day i went to the lake and made it a few hundred yards and the new one went out to is there something else that could cause this problem and ruin the new power pack. it ran great with the new one for a short time.

Sometimes the switchboxes (power packs) will kill each other through the bias circuit. It is recommend you replace them in pairs.

Another killer is bad grounds.

hope it helps
