I have a 97 sea ray 190 eith a 4.3 mercruiser and alpha 1 outdrive. AT cruising speeds my boat leans really bad to the portside. If i trim up it will help a little but its still leaning. I bought the boat used. It does have a two piece hydrofoil that is a little loose. I have a three blade prop not sure about the size or pitch. I noticed that the fin shaped anode that hangs down behind the prop is not there. Any help would be appreciated. I generaly just wakeboard and its not such a problem but cruising is a little ridiculous.

Welcome to iboats, Take off the hydrofoil, and try it,,, that could be causing it. Wait, one more thing, is the trim tab on the drive missing? or is there a flat plate there?

this is going to sound stupid but which one is the trim tab. There is a round plate on the drive above the prop where the fin shped anode usually goes with a screw hole in it where the fin should be, there are two flat plates up colse to the boat.

Re: My Sea Ray leaning hard to the left

It is a good bet that the hydrofoil is making the boat more sensitive to a torque list. Deep V boats are problematic when it comes to a list. A hydrofoil is essentially a trim tab (mounted to the motor) directly in the center of the boat. Now imagine what happens when you lift a V hull from the point of the V. Minor weight and balance shifts will induce a list, and this includes a torque list from the prop. In addition the hydrofoil will lift even more at cruising speeds which will drive the bow down. This forces the boat to ride on the deepest part of the V (forward section of the boat), making it more sensitive to a list.

Remove the hydrofoil, and trim out. The list will go away.

Now you will have to deal with the slow to plane issue and the porpoising when you trim out. Look at trim tabs.

If there is a hole where the screw goes, and the nothing where the fin should be, my guess is the trim tab is missing.

took the whale tale off and it solved my leaning problem. I had a two piece whale tale so maybe it was a cheaper one, but i didnt notice any difference in the planing, speed or anything.
