Can anyone please tell me why this is disconnected? Volvo AQ131A/275 1986 model, 4 cyl. I found this last night while cleaning. It did not seem to affect the way the boat ran last weekend. Do I do nothing...the old saying "Don't fix it if it aint broken". Any insight to this would be great.

Thats your accelerator pump. You want that to be working.

Re: Volvo AQ131A/275 Carburator Question

captmello, I don't understand. Last weekend we had plenty of acceleration, and I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't hooked up. However, I'm pretty anal about getting all this absolutely right, so any more information would be appreciated. Are you saying that I wouldn't have had any acceleration with out being hooked up? Also, is this a marine issue or can I take to an automotive mechanic to work on it? Looks to me like it takes two nuts, one on the front and one behind to hold position on the valve? Thanks, you have been great help.

have a look at this link

#15 is the accelerator pump and the parts that make up the pump are shown. The diaphragm is the part that wears on those. Yours may be fine however but it should be hooked up.

The accelerator pump squirts fuel into your carb when you accelerate to make up for the lack of fuel being drawn into the carb at the moment of acceleration.

When the pump isn't working properly, you typically would have trouble with quick acceleration, the engine may want to die. You can often still operate but with very gradual acceleration. That is my understanding anyway.

Hows the boat been performing lately?

Re: Volvo AQ131A/275 Carburator Question

Thanks for web-site info. The boat's performing great! I'd say out of the hole, we're getting to 30mph in less than 20 seconds and topping out around 40mph. I think it will go faster, but I'm too chicken to try it. I'll keep you informed on any changes in performance. If this sucker is hooked up properly, that is additional acceleration, we may have to install seat beats and head rests.

Re: Volvo AQ131A/275 Carburator Question

Ok, here's the update. Took the boat out yesterday 05/31/09 and it performed excellent. I don't think I'm going to mess with it, if it's running like a champ..don't mess with it. Thanks for all the information! If it does start to act a little funny w/no acceleration, I'll be sure and post more information here. Thanks again.
