I bought this 1965 9.5 sportwin as a fixer upper. I should have checked the compression first but instead, I replaced the fuel pump, all fuel lines and overhauled the carb. Waiting on points, condenser and plugs, should be here tomorrow. I did get it running but not real good. I checked the compression and only got a 55 lb reading in both cylinders. Does anyone know if that is ok. I've been told that it should read over 100 and then an older gent told me that he didn't think these motors had very high compression. I guess I will change out the points and condenser anad put it in the water and see how it performs. Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I ordered a service manual but it says nothing about the compression. Thanks

Boy. That's pretty low. But then some guys on here say they have good running 9.5s that have compression in the 60s. I've got an old 64 9.5 that time has been kind to, it gets a little better than 90 on both cylinders.
Do a web-search on this forum for '9.5 Evinrude compression'. Plenty will come up.

If cylinders match you have good compression. Don't get psi hysteria.

OK, I'm not going to get hyper about this compression. I'm just going to put it in the water and if it pushes my 14' jon boat, I will be happy. Thank you all for your help.
