Re: 14' starcraft advise please

Hello Lucky

Gotta say in my opinion..That is way way overpriced for a 14 ft SC, more so with such a small motor...

Similar sized SC's out here can go 300 to 1,000 bucks, with the higher dollar skiffs having much bigger (15-20hp) motors..

Others will chime in, there are a bunch of us Starcraft guys here...

Startcraft is an excellent brand, I would rank them close to Lund, they however aren't nearly good enough to get $1200 bucks for one.

I would try to get them down in the $500-$700 range but the boat and motor are bullit proof IF they were taken care of.

I agree. 500-700 tops,IF the motor checks out. Do some comparison shopping.

It is a small motor for that boat. OK for putting around on small ponds and lakes, but it won't push it at all fast. The boat is rated for either 15 or 20 hp.

Still, you can certainly go fishing with that motor. It'll just take a while to get from one end of the lake to the other. Troll on the way...that's what I do. I've found some new hot spots doing that.

It is a small motor and take a look at mine (not for sale ;) )

This is a 1963  :D Not too many changes! Mine is rated for a 20 hp.

Rule of thumb.... at least 65-75% of the rated hp will allow a boat to perform properly

Hey lucky 7 off subject sorry I see you are from NH as am I. I was just wondering what lakes you play in I seem to get stuck going to great pond aka Kingston lake way to small but close to home. My all time favorite lake however is Winnasquam. My question to you is what lakes to you visit? Good luck with the boat for the friend.
