Just when I thought I had seen it all, HELP!

Trailer lights and salt water are a bad combo. I have replaced and rewired more than once, but now I have a problem I have never encountered. I am sure it is a short somewhere, but I could use some help finding it. All trailer lights have been perfect for the last three months then last night with the lights pluged into the tow recepticle but no lights "on" on my Jeep, [/U]the left trailer tail light[/U] (stop light it seems) is on, all other lights (clearance, rear cross member, right tail/turn/stop) all are off as should be.

All lights seem to work when turned on and left turn signal flashes on both tow and trailer when turned on. Any suggestions on a fix? I would prefer not to rewire trailer again.

That is a weird one. Time to check the voltage at the Jeep connector without the trailer connected.

I agree with Bruce, check the Jeep plug w/out a trailer hooked to it or try another trailer and see how the lights act. If you have the seven wire round trailer plug the jeep should have one pin that is 12volts all the time. This might be feeding some lights due to a shorted circuit or wiring that has rubbed thru.

Thanks for the input! I forgot to mention that I have a standard 4-pin trailer connection. I guess there is no easy answer, so I quess I need to start at the errant light and work back to the Jeep checking wires and connections. Obviously there is a short some place! Thanks for the help. I find this forum always the source for great solutions and insights.
