2006 Johnson 115 V4 Crossflow

Had a mechanic come out to the house today for my bad idle issue. Compression tested good 125 across all 4 cylinders. He checked spark and it was good as well. He was convinced it is a fuel delivery issue. We get good suction from the carb throats when trying to check them out. I tried spraying fuel into the carb throats but no change. also swapped carbs, no change. We pulled one of the intakes off and found a bad gasket, put back together but still had the issue with the cylinder. I pull the #3 or #4 plug and no change in idle. I am stumped

This boat runs great at WOT.

did you use a new gasket? does pushing the key in activating the primer help? clogged low speed jets.

yep, I put a new gasket on. I hear the primer clicking on and it does flood out the carbs. I also soaked and rebuilt the carbs with new kits. Blew out all jets. Carbs were pretty clean, when I first pulled them off. Mechanic left and was going to come back with a diffrent intake manifold. Not sure why, I think i stumped him.

Did you confirm spark on 3 & 4?

Good Spark, Air, Fuel, compression. If all are present it has to fire. Might not run right, but should fire.

We hooked up a tester to all 4 wired. Spark jump was good and nice and blue. Is it possible that the plug is not firing under a load, even though spark has been confirmed. When I saw the gasket, I was almost positive that was my issue. Looks like it was sucking air. Maybe the other side is toasted too. I will know when it stops raining.

I'm going to the keys next sunday, not sure what I would do without the boat. Really starting to freak out.

Should I suspect the powerpack? I'm out out of ideas, I asked the mechanic to check that stuff but he was convinced it was not the problem. Very reputable guy with 30 years in the bus.

Changed the other intake gasket. It is staying running at idle now but still running rough. I still pull the #3 and #4 wire and thier is no change. If I pull #1 and #2, motor shuts down. As I stated before i swapped the coils and no change. Would my powerpack cause this? Boat runs great when doing speed laps.

You are contradicting yourself here, tested all 4 plugs and they all spark good.
Pulled 2 sparkplug wires and it made no difference. say wha?

This is not possible. Did the spark jump 7/16th inch gap?
It must jump that big gap, not a sparkplug gap.

Did you test the shift interrupt switch?
If it sticks it will knock out one side.

Other than that you need to put a peak meter on the primary coil wires and see if the PP is sending the pulse to the coil.
Examine coils for cracks, swap coils around, swap coil wires.

Yes, spark jump has been verified. What is weird is that I can disconnect the coil wires coming from the powerpack and thier is no change to the way the engine is running. I have swapped coils and no change. I do not have the proper meter to test pulses. If I can disconnect those leads and have no results wouldn't that pint to the powerpack?

Ok, Spoke to the mechanic and told him what i have done so far. He is now thinking it may be the OIS sensor. He is coming back out on Wednesday which give me only a couple of more days to deal with this before I leave for the keys. Can it be anything else that I can have him check. I don't mind buying parts and having them on hand. My vacation will suck bigtime, if we don't have a boat.
