I'm trying to track down a rebuild kit or just where the best place to get any parts for this motor is. I just picked it up today and ready to re-build it.

you need parts manual to get correct #s, and service to rebuild. why are you wanting to rebuild, most of those old motor are still fine.

Any many parts are still available from Bombadier or retailers such as Iboats.

More than likely, a rebuild will be (in order of likelihood):
Water pump impeller
Carb Kit
Points and Condensers
Coils
Sparkplug wires
Gearcase seals

All are available here at iboats and other places.

Re: 1957 18 h.p. parts

Thanks guys, but I wish it was gonna be that easy. This motor was given to me yesterday the guy said it used to run but not in a while. Started messing with it and realized it's seized up so I dropped the lower unit...nothing. Then pulled the head off and both pistons were full of penetrating oil and top of both pistons are marred up bad from where somebody stuck a punch through the spark plug hole and beat the heck out of them.

Does anybody know about how much it is going to cost me to fix this motor and if it's worth it after getting it for basically free.

Re: 1957 18 h.p. parts

This is just my opinion:
I don't think it's worth it. YOu would be far better off keeping this FD-11 as a parts motor and buying yourself one for a cheap price and fixing it. The FD-11 and 12 are my favorite motors of all time, so keep in mind I say this hating to think of one being junked, but new pistons and such are very expensive. Also, there's a good chance that the crank journals and bearings could have rust, and I don't even know if you can get one new. If you could get the parts you needed and get new oversized pistons and get the block bored, you'd have far more in it that you would have going and buying a used motor in good shape. If you're patient, you can find a good one for around $200-$300, which is much less than you'd have in pistons, rings, and an overbore. You still may need bearings and a crank, which places you in used powerhead territory. A used powerhead may be a possibility, as I have seen used ones for sale pretty regularly in the past for reasonable prices.
Good luck,

Thanks, yeah the farther and farther I get into this motor the worse it looks I think it has been sitting for a while.

Is there a good classified listing to find boat motors and powerheads?

Also check ebay and craigslist. You'll be surprised at what pops up.
