Hallo,

We have a Bayliner 285 with a Merc 350 MAG. At the end of seison 2008 it did not run over 4200rpm. Normally it can make 4800/5000. Beginning 2009 it was launched again and it run fine. 2 months later we tried again to do wide open throttle but it does not make more then 4200rpm. It seems that from a certain point the throttle can be pushed more forward, but rpm stays put.

Can this be lack of fuel due clodged lines/filter/fuelpickup?
Further it runs fine.

Looking forward to opinions,
Olaf

Re: Mercruiser 350 stops at 4200rpm

Is the engine carb or EFI? what year is boat/engine? is the bottom of the boat clean? dose the prop look damaged at all? At key up do you hear a warning horn at all letting you know the warning horn is working right normaly sounding from under the dash area at the same time making sure you are not hearing the depth gauge units warning horn that some times sounds the same? Yes bad or cloged fuel could hold you to 4200rpms. A lot of times buying fuel from a fuel dock marina will have bad gas to sale you. Have you added extra wait from when the boat went 4800rpm Like "gear" or did you top off gas tank and add more people then try to get top speed? Did you check all the oils? Sorry about all the??? but it could help in trying to finding your problems.:)
