I bought a boat this past week and the motor is torn down and have some questions. First, how do I figure out the year? Second, it needs a piston and some head work, is it worth fixing or should I look for something else? Third, if I do decide to fix it what repair manuel do you suggest?

Re: Vro 50

VRO 50, look for the model number plate on the mounting bracket,
if not, look for a silver quarter sized disc between the cylinders on the head.
Once you have that you can order the correct factory manual.

this will help with your model number, some letter are not included in the manual description because they are specific options like L is 20" shaft
so I think you need a manual for an 87 evinrude 50hp electric start Hope this helps.
