I took the boat out on the first run of the year, other than a few mishaps and fine tweaking of the engine, it ran great. When i was fixing an issue with the fuel hose, i noticed a water leak in the front of the engine right in the area of the raw water pump. I thought what the... Went online and say the ipl on the pump and im thinking the sealing ring went out.

How much work am i looking at taking the pump off and checking/replacing the seal?
When the water dripped into the bilge it was warm, assumed it dribbled down the block, it wasnt antifreeze either.

From looking at the IPL its a pretty simple pump with no bearings that i can see.?

Other than the mishap of the throttle linkage coming off the carb going about 30mph to idle realfast, the boat ran great untill it sucked what it could out of the water seperator and ran out of fuel in the carb. Didnt over heat ran between 180 - 190.
First started Pumped water into the exhanger real fast (didnt have the cap on all the way)

Thanks for the help, looks like VP store sells the gasket for 6 bucks but $7.00 oops ground shipping OUCH...

Thanks

If you are mechanically inclined this is not very hard and I would try replacing the seal first just remove the hoses and raw water pump, fan belts then the 3 large allen head bolts and remove the pump and then replace the seal just note which way the seal is in and put the new one back the same way as the old , not sure if it would matter but there is a front and back to the seal. when I replaced mine it took care of my leak. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. Mine doesnt have the pully on it. It just has the shaft the impeller rides on that goes into a coupler attached the the front of the engine somehow that rides on the timing belt. Im hoping to not have to take the timing belt off as im not currently setup to reset timing.

Any tips and tricks for removing this thing without taking teh timing belt off? To me it looks like the shaft rides on a coupler? Just want to make sure before i get into a project i cant handle?

are you sure you have your parts correct? It sounds like you are referring to your impeller housing, not the raw water pump......JMO.

top box is the Raw water/circulation pump.

middle box is the impeller.

If it's the impeller, change it, and the gaskets come with the kit. About $30.

The item im refereing to as being bad is #12 in this picture

Correct me if im wrong but, this is a closed cooling engine. Raw water comes up into the impeller, than into the heat exchanger, there it cools down the antifreeze and also travels through the other copper pipe into the exhaust manifolds and then out the exhaust. The circulating pump pumps the antifreeze around whatever it cools, the heads i think and gets pumped into the heat exchanger opposite side of the antifreeze and gets cooled down.

But yes i am refereing to the impeller pump, i need to take that off to get to the seal, my main concern is if i have to mess with the timing belt it runs off of. To me it looks like it rids on a couple attached to one things on the engine..
