Re: No Oil Pressure

Did you install the oil plug under the rear main cap? If this plug is missing you wont have much if any oil pressure.

Re: No Oil Pressure

Lifter adjustment has nothing to do with oil pressure and a valve not closing fully won't bother that either. And if this dude rebuilt the engine, why didn't he adjust the rockers. It can be done with or without the engine running.

Re: No Oil Pressure

Something is seriously wrong here, and it needs to come back apart. Even if you forgot to put in 1 or 2 main bearings, it should still build at least a few pounds of pressure.
Just curious have you tried another gauge?
Pull a rocker cover off, when you spin it are you getting oil up to the rockers?

Re: No Oil Pressure

I have never personally rebuilt this type of motor, but I have seen in other instances that an engine rebuilder has incorrectly installed oil galley plugs in the block only to see them come out and cause a massive drop to no pressure at all. Not cool. Just one more possibility for you. Keep us posted.

Re: No Oil Pressure

Found my problem. Intake manifold seal not set properly letting water into the head seal blowing the starbd side gasket. With evidence of water in the stbd rear valve and 7 rods bent. So I'm breaking the engine down to double check everything. Replacing all seals and checking all clearances.

Re: No Oil Pressure

what?

If you have 7 bent pushrods this thing has been seriously over rev'd...

If the intake wasn't sealed you should have all sorts of water in the oil....

Something tells me you should just buy a crate motor.

Re: No Oil Pressure

Finaly found my problem the larger oil galley plug in the front was missing. Hence all my oil was flowing right through the galley and back to the pan.

CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!!!!! I hate it when things like that go wrong! Sorry man.

Note that if you paid someone else to rebuild the engine and put the intake on... I would seriously consider NEVER letting them touch ANYTHING of yours again... excepp maybe to write you a check to cover some of the expense (like a new longblock from a reputable source)... if you feel it's warranted and can get them to do something about it. After that experience, I would not let them do anything to repair it for you. Who knows what'll be screwed up next time...

Yep i wont even let him touch the tires for the trailer to put air in them. To be on the safe side I'm replacing the head gaskets and intake gaskets, all rods, and timing cover gasket.

Re: No Oil Pressure

So, after a fresh rebuild by Bubba's backyard rebuild, you have 7 bent pushrods, a blown head gasket, and the cam galley plug was left out? And the guy who assembled the engine skipped town?

Cripes, is all I can say..... (and Bubba is thanking you for your donation, while vacationing in the Bahamas ) :)

7 bent pushrods?? Jeez he's a pro. No wonder he said you may need to adjust the valves... He didn't know how and just cranked down the rockers way to far.

Another reason i do my own. At least when or if I screw up its my fault. It also lets me be very thorough. Never know what is going on in someone else head or what's being done or not being done when you're not around..
