What is the best way to tie the 6 gal. metal tank to the deck so that it is easily removed?

There are tie-down kits just for this purpose...check the Iboats mall. Another way is to buy some D-rings/anchors at the box stores, install them and use your own strap/bungee cord to hold the tank in place.

I never fastened the tanks down to the deck on my Starcraft. They were just placed on the deck under the splashwell. In the 8 or so years I had it I got into some pretty rough water and never had a problem with then not being tied down.

That sound interesting,- not tying it down? I may try that in a few weeks when the boat is ready for the water.
How many 6 gal. gas tanks do you have in your Starcraft? Are they metal?

Re: Securing portable gas tank.

I just sold the Starcraft a few weeks ago, but it had 2 metal 6 gallon tanks. I will mention that the deck was capreted and the carpet ran into the area under the splashwell a little. It ran in just enough that the forward 3 or 4 inches of the tanks were sitting on the carpet. The bottom lip of the tank would kind of dig in to the carpet preventing it from sliding around.

I have a larger "portable" tank that I store under my closed bow (mostly to move some weight forward). I bought these brackets meant to secure a cooler to the floor and it works great. http://www.amazon.com/T-H-Marine-Cooler-Mounting/dp/B000KKD2YG

Sorry, I don't have a pic of it with the tank in place.
