well I'm cleaning up my motor. right now I'm trying to split the block in half at the cylinders to see what the inside looks like. I guess I don't know what I'm looking for , but the cylinders seem smooth and have good compression. Anyways how do I split it in half. do I just take a flat head and pry along the fault.

I guess I could use some advice on lubricating the inside and maybe taking something to the pistons themselves like a terry cloth or something fine so remove any light dust or any gunk or whatever there might be.

also I guess I want to learn more about where the arms attached to the pistons are bolted down and check what that joint looks like.

NO Flat head - No prying on the seam. You can ruin the motor.

My manual actually shows striking the Crankshaft with a big rubber mallet. in the direction of the smaller 1/2 of the case. (Away from the pistons)
