Honda 9.9 or Yamaha 9.9 ????

I am sure this question has been asked and answered I can't find it.
In your opinion which Motor for a 1650 rebel Lund SS.

You advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Both are excellent motors. Just your choice or price. I just sold my 15 HP Honda and replaced it with a T9.9 Yamaha on because of price. The Honda dealers would not budge off the $2900.00 price +tax. I found a NEW left over 1 year old Yamaha for $2280 (including the 8.9% tax) with a 6 year Yamaha warranty. I think I liked the older Honda better, but both are really good engines.

Why only those two choices? You won't consider a Tohatsu? Nissan? Merc? ...

Are you dealing with restriced waters? 10HP is very small for a boat rated for a 60 hp. That's a pretty heavy rig. I doubt you'll even get it to plane with a 9.9.


FWIW, I'm running a 30 hp on a 16' aluminum ( Mirrocraft 1615-0) and am satisfied with it's performance .
If it were me, I wouldn't consider anything less than a 25 and a 30-40 would be better.

Probably a 10 HP lake restriction. That is why I am looking for an alternative motor as well.

Yep the 2 lakes in my area that have musky are 10 HP max

I have had a Honda 9.9 for about 19 years it still starts first or second pull and have never had one problem with it.

I have mine on a 14 Ft. Lund and it runs it about 17 MPH with just me and about 14 with 2 peeps in it.

Or there is the Tohatsu 9.8. Cheap and (relatively) light.
