The engine runs great. Boat does 44mph at 4400 rpm.

I see an occasional drip of water splashing from the Water Pump area when the engine is idling. No major build up of water in the bilge. Hoses have been tightened but still it persists.

Is this a normal event for this engine?

Re: Drip from Water Pump Area

It sounds to me like the circulation pump is failing. Mine did the same at first start-up this year but hasn't done it since. Still means I have to replace it sometime this season. Cheap and easy to do.

No water should drip from your engine. If your bilge is wet, either you took a wave over the top, or something isn't right.

Mine was dripping and the problem was the seal on the raw water pump. My engine is a 2005 Volvo 5.7 Gi-E. Just replaced the impeller, oring and shaft seal. All tight and drip free. Simple and easy.:)

Yes and no, Yes a lot of them seems to always have a leak at the weep hole on the bottom of the circ pump, And no it should not be leaking at all. It is time for a new pump, But I know a lot of guys wait till it get's real bad before they replace it out there, But if you run the salt water you need to do it ASAP because why would you want to spray salt water all over the engine. Besides normal wear, Some water pump leaks is because on the inside of the pump their is a nylon bushing washer inside the that will get hot and burn up and wear out with in 10 seconds If that water pump is ever ran dry even at start up of a brand new engine or even after a new pump install job it dose take some time to refill the engine block up enough to get water to that pump on new engines, But should be ok on a pump change over to a new one because the water is already in the engine block in most cases, If not filled up then you will need to prime the block So the pump will not run dry or it will leak water out that hole over time. This is also why you will notice most of the newer volvo penta engines have a hose mounted to the engine so you can hook a garden hose up to it and fill or prime the engine block first before you try to start it up from either new or after winter storeage,:)
