Re: will tilt/trim off 92 150 hp force bolt to a 87 85hp force
Any system from any 3 cylinder or larger engine made before 1994 will fit any other 3cylinder made before 1994 as long was you buy the complete system. Each system has advantages. Eaton is best system but mercury ruined them with cheap ATF and anything from 1992 to 1994 has potential for complete failure because of it. 1988-1992 Prestolite is most durable because it is youngest in age and USMarine used manufacturers recommended fluid instead of the cheapest stuff they could get their hands on. However, it is most expensive. 1970-1985 has the most durable motor and often the least expensive price tag. However, it is the most difficult to repair and when it does break then you can bank on an extra $100 to fix it. In the end best value is $200 for an off season 1989-1992 Prestolite and pay $150 to have valve body rebuilt and new seals put onto motor. You'll be out $350 and have a completely reliable system.
