For some reason I could not get the site to load, but its OK now.
Had the same problem, at first I thought the wife did something so I couldn't get on the site(she hates when I'm on iboats for hours:D) but when I got to work yesterday it was the same.

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Back to unscrewing again! Work and hay got in the way. This boat has a molded deck that is placed on top of the Plywood/glass deck. It is glued down with something. Can't tell what. The molded one goes up the sides and forms a shelf and is tabed to the sides under carpet. Figure on cutting the tab. Any ideas on how to seperate the decks without breaking the molded one? Me thinks this ain't gonna be fun to remove:eek:

Re: 24' Silverline Project

I lost your contact info when I cleaned out my inbox, so send me another PM.

Just cut the tabs and see if you can lift it up, if not then its just a little more fun in the demo stage.

Yep, going to be more fun! I'm not to the point of trying to remove it yet. Still removing trim. Posted Yesterday then had to go rake hay and load 350 bales to deliver this morning. Having a BBQ today so I can't do anything today. This is going slower than I want. I'd post some pics. but there is nothing to see yet, just ply panels coming out so I can get to the floor, yes floor. My boat also has a right side, left side, pointy end and a square end!LOL

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Got a lot done today,All bulkheads are out resting in the CC out of they way. Deck is ready to start trying to get up. The tape holding it to the sides are not holding anything, seems they didn't grind the gel before slaping the tape on. tomorrow I will cut everything holding down the deck and see if I can get it loose. looks like the was a layer of mat laid on the edge of the stringer and the deck set on it. I will try to grind it and see if I can pop it out. Have a couple of ply pieces to take out and then I can remove whats left of the center deck and stringer. Center stringer is a 1x6 with the s stringer being
1x10s with the bottoms even with the top of the center stringers forming the tank well and CC floor. Couple of pics.

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Got one side of the deck mostly poped loose. Going real slow as not to crack the deck. Funny how as you're sitting in the boat you kinda let you mind wander to things you would like to change to fit your needs better. Then you come back to the task at hand, start thinking how am I going to do this or that. I guess it's from being a plumber for 33 years and having to work way ahead of yourself;)

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Have not had time to work on DaBoat much. Yesterday just got started and had to stop and help th SNL on his hay mower. Replacing a burnt out bearing, took all day, still not done.
Decided I need to cut the molded deck inorder to remove it. Only way it will come out. Going to cut center line on the front. Quick job with the Skill saw with very little to fix latter. You can see in this picture the narrow part. Sorry about the small pictures, I'm not smart enough to figure out Photobucket.
Ondarvr, call me latter,# is in your PMs. Thanks John
For some reason I can't post a pic, but in a earlier post you can see it

I forgot to say That I sold all the OMC stuff for the price I paid for the boat. So in the end the boat and trailer were FREE! Gotta like that!

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Was suppose to have the week of but got called back to work, so iI won't be getting done what I figured. Guess thats life! Have half the molded deck almost loose, using a long, long chiesl to break to bond where the deck meet the side edge from underneath. Not a lot of fun standing on you head. Chiesl is custom made 1/4x3 flat stock with round stock welded to it for a handle.
Ondarvr, I am up between 4or5 am everyday without an alarm. Been up that early for so many years I can't sleep in anymore;)

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Got the starboard side of the deak out and the port side is almost free.
I'm begining to think I have a cored hull. When walking around in the center area ther is NO flexing at all. And I ain't light(260#), nothing moves. Also the sides seem to have a foam core.I discovered that while cutting the deck lose were it is conected to the side. This joint is 12" up the sides. Should be removing the transom by the weekend. Going to cutt the stringers back a few feet for working room, do the transom then do the stringers. Not as fast as I want, but life keeps getting in the way.

Re: 24' Silverline Project

FINALLY got the deck out!!! Have not had time to work on the boat for awhile, hay, life and extreme(for us in Wa.) heat. This morning I will be taking some measurements and cutting the plywood deck back so I can get to the transom to start removing the wood. Plan is to do the transom first then do the stringers. Want to have the glassing done before fall rains come. Seems that my blushing bride(34years) always thinks there are more important things to do than work on that boat and I've learned that even if she's wrong, she's always right!!!!!!

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Deck is cut back. Boy what a find! I don't think Silverline ever had to throw out scrap plywood. They just stuck it in boats. My transom ply is in a indent in the hull. There are a couple whoopdedos(tec. boating talk) as well as a slight curve. So it was kinda hard to do a full width transom wood. They cut the flat wood to fit the indent then used scrap here and there for backing as needed. A little chop on the hull, slap on a piece of ply and good to go! No glass over just thin layer of paint. Trim tab area had no backing at all. Can see where the screws leaked and water had no escape, Just sit and rot wood.Won't be put back that way! Time to make a pattern for transom ply then chip it out,do some grinding and prep work and put it in. Then its stringer time!

Re: 24' Silverline Project

wow, thats a lot of work. its possible that you arent the first guy to do a transom job, its possible the last guy did a 1 season jobber on it and that is what you are now cleaning out. I have a hard time believing a factory would not put a inner fibreglass shell on a transom of a boat that large. No matter jamming small bits of scrap wood in, becuase that defeats the whole idea of the transom, which is to spread out the force of the engine over the entire stern of the boat, little chunks of wood only attached with glue would not do any good.

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Lego, actual transom piece of plywood is 44'wide by 36" highx1 1/4 That is factory for positive, bottom part is covered with light choppergun csm this is all factory for sure. My boat is a deep v hull and most is covered by the cap and a bulkhead so weather dos'nt hit it. I can see nothing that makes me think it has been touched by any PO. Lota fuzzy chop never rolled:rolleyes:

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Got a lot done yesterday. Got the transom ply removed and worked on removing trim tabs. Had to have the blushing bride hold a wrench on the outside for me. That takes some doing! Not holding the wrench but getting her to come to the boat.LOL Have 2 scews that stripped out the Pillips head so have to get the grinder going. Will do that this morning. Got to take a trip to Knowes or Home Decrap this morning and get some drop cloths and masking tape so I can mask off the cuddy to keep some of the grinding dust off stuff. Then its Itchy time!:D

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Got on the grinder today. Most of the transom is ground out and smoothed down the rear stringer beds. Found that the sides are foam cored(sprayin)and it wraps around to the transom about 3''. Chop over was never rolled and looks like a porkipine. Got to hot in the Tyvek and had to stop early. Think I have the day off tomorrow so I'll start earlier! Oh the ITCH,What Fun!

Re: 24' Silverline Project

Did not touch the boat yesterday. Played with my gold prospecting stuff instead:pBack to it today. Feathering the I/O hole for glassing in. Got to build a mold plate to cover the hole and hold the transom flat while I'm glassing. Need to cut out my bilge stinger mounts and grid them down cause I keep catching on the suit. Found a lot of dry spots in the factory work. My hull must have been done on a Friday or Monday and they had a case of CCL(couldn't care less) I can see why they went under a year after my boat was made. But I suppose its the same with all boats. If they can't see it don't worry about it:( Latter John
