1977 merc 850 oil injestion ?

looks looks i'm getting a boat with a 1977 merc 850. 85 hp so dumb question is that motor have oil injection or i need to pre mix gas and oil ? did not think to ask the seller. if pre mix 50:1 ratio ?

I don't think its injected........lol I know not much help.

Fuel ratio is 50:1 on mercs.If you plan on keeping her its highly recommended to invest in a service manual.Also if you have no idea when the water impeller was changed then it should be done as soon as possible.Better to not find out its bad in the middle of a lakeI would run some sea foam through it also,or the merc brand if you prefer.

i was thinking that might be too old for injection. no big deal with me. don't need to worry about that going bad. yes a manual is a must. guy is to deliver boat to me sunday.

'77 850 Most Definitely is a Pre-Mix motor. Mix 50:1 with quality TCW3 mfr's oil or good aftermarket like Penzoil Synthetic Blend (avail. at Wal-Mart by the gallon for a pretty good deal).
