I have a 1945 sea king, model# 54 GG- 9011 serial# 58507, have run it briefly with 50-1 mix. it is in great shape, however there is something missing for the prop, it spins free, nothing is tore up behind it,I think there should be some form of rubber bushing to mate the prop to the shaft? need to check oil in the lower unit, impeller-water pump, prpper fuel mix and last is motor direct drive or is there some kind of clutch.

That little jewel requires at least 24:1 fuel mix, archie, and some folks will tell you 20:1 or even 16:1.

I use 24:1 in my 1948 Sea King 1.5 with good results.

You may have a sheared drive pin that "locks" the prop to the shaft.

Re: sea king 1945

went in a little farther, pulled the power head and tore down the hole bottom end.
#1 someone has relapsed the oil with wight lithium grease
#2 the old rotary-oscillating water pump is still intaced but is getting hard and showing some cracks... gotta find a new one
#3 still have the prop problem ... If you take out the pin and take off the castle nut you can remove the prop, looking inside the prop casting you see splines- behind the prop is a cast aluminum cap that goes over the shaft that has a grove in the back side to receive a pin that goes through the shaft- that locks the cap to the shaft. were I seem to have something missing is between the cap and the prop, at present the prop can bottom out on the cap and the splines never get close to meshing? In my head the cap and the prop are actually one pice and rubber was meant to fill the space between but it has rotted out.

and by the way, finding someone that can help with a 64 year old motor, priceless

Re: sea king 1945

I believe on a 45 the gearcase uses grease, Lubriplate 105 I think is suggested.Pump is available ask at The antique Outboard Motor Club www.aomci.org The gearcase is pretty simple The is a pinion gear on the drive shaft with a key.The gear in the prop shaft is pinned. The prop has a clutch hub and a clutch ring that goes over it. Inside of the ring is splined to the hub, ring is splined inside the prop. I believe the hub is driven by the shear pin.I'm guessing the ring is rubber and may be missing.

I am glad to hear about the grease, the rest of what you describe now makes sense to me thank you for the help.

Re: sea king 1945

?? Seems like I already answered this, maybe somewhere else?

Propeller clutch ring is part number 550089
Wobbler impeller (properly called a "rotor") is part number 550040

Both are still available thru Evinrude dealers.
