I had posted a post on here about a problem with my 1971 100 h.p. outboard being stuck in forward. Its the electric push button shift. I checked my two wires that run into the exhaust housing with a ohms tester and they came back at 6 ohm's which i read mean't they were good. But I noticed alot of people on here saying that on these older elctric shift models to use a type C lower unit oil and I just checked what I used and it was regular 80/90w lower unit oil and not the type C. Could this be whats making it not shift out of gear? Any other ideas will help. Also I only ran the motor about 30 seconds since I put the regular 80/90w gea oil in it so if I change it back to the type C should it fix it or is my motor ruined? Thank you

Change the oil immediately. In fact, I believe you might have to flush it to get all the old stuff out. Also, please keep with the original thread. Also, by applying 12v directly to the wires going down to the solenoids you can bypass all the controls and see if the solenoids are working... but the engine may have to be working to try it... Im not sure on that model.
