I have a 2007 Bayliner I just purchased last month. Been on the water about 5 times. Last night we were done for the night and just before we got it on the trailer the motor quit running. I tried to restart it but my ignition key bascially now turns 360 degrees. Sounds like I will at least be replacing that piece. Has this happenend to anyone else before, and how hard is it to replace the ignition. Does that sound like something that would kill the engine? I am fairly mechanical, but my electrical expertise is very much lacking. Thanks for any help.

Check the nut on the back side of the switch. I had this happen on my 87 bayliner. the ignition switch is clamped in place by a nut on the back side and can vibrate lose, letting the key just kinda spin.

If it turns out to be the switch its self is bad, easy change. just pay attention to what wires go where and transfer from the old to the new.

I had the same problem on my old 1978. Check the wires also to make sure they werent damaged or became unplugged.
