Hi what is my advance timing supposed to be at. I have a 1987 GM 4.3l alpha 1.
I just bought a timing gun that reads rpm and advance timing. I have looked for it in the selco manual and can't find. I have also searched for it in the service manual and didn't have any luck finding it. Please help!

Thanks

Go to the "adults only" sticky and dowload the Merc manual (read the top part for the new way to download). My 4.3 is a 88 and its 8 degrees, yours could be different so check the manual.

I just re-read your post. You wrote advance timing. Better check that manual before you make changes.

I have downloaded the manual and saved it to my computer. I doesn't really say what the advance timing is supposed to be.

this is all I found:

Re: Advance Timing??

Using 8 deg. initial ,the module dials in 14 deg. advance for a total advance timing setting of 22 deg.

I doesn't really say what the advance timing is supposed to be.

It's right there on the chart. Find RPM, slide up until you hit the line. Read the amount of advance and add it to your initial timing.
