I've got a 1974 Johnson 9.9hp outboard that has been running a little erratically so I took the carb off to inspect the float bowl. Well, since the float bowl is metal, the inside has a significant amount of rust in it. The cork floats are also covered with junk. Rather than buying all new parts for it, I thought about just buying a whole new carbureter that's clean and swap it out. I found a carb from a 1991 15hp johnson but didnt know for sure if it would be a direct replacement. This carb has a plastic float bowl and plastic top where as mine doesn't. Anyone know if it will work, and if there would be any potential problems with using this carb on my motor?

I can tell you they use a different rebuild kit.
I think the jets would be bigger on the 15 carb.Would run too rich.

On the 1974 9.9hp model, the only difference between the 9.9hp and the 15hp is the carburetor. So...... if that 15hp carburetor will fit properly, you will then have a 15hp engine.

Thanks for the replies. I've got some other advice as well and think i'm going to hold off for a carb that resembles mine a little closer

Ray..... It holds true for a few of the older 9.9hp models from 1974 up BUT there is point where the upgrade requires quite a few more modifications and I'm not sure where that point is.
