trailer weight

Have a 18 foot Maxium 1800RS on a single axle trailer that says Maxum on it from Escort trailers. My problem is I bought this in Idaho and live in Washington and they need to know the weight of the trailer without the boat. The licensing people gave me two choices. 1. Take the baot off the trailer and go somewhere and have it weighed. That doesn't seem like a very easy or smart option. 2. Find out the weight by any other means (guess?) and come back and they would register it. The trailer is about 20 feet long including tongue, has a single axle and as I understand it was sold with the boat back in 1991. Anybody able to give me a ballpark figure.

Re: trailer weight

Kelly blue book can give you the weight of your boat. Take the whole rig to a truck weighing scale and get the weight subtract the boat and there is your trailer weight.

Re: trailer weight

my single axle trailer without the boat weighs about 700 lbs. I posted that it weighs less in another thread, but I checked the registration and it was either 700 or 750 lbs. Single axle, no brakes, holds my 19' open bow.

Re: trailer weight

Silly questions but.

Is there a sticker stating what the max load weight and curb weight is?
Is there a VIN? --> Idaho records have nothing?

Here is a link for the mfg: http://www.manta.com/company/mmg3l19

If you post a pic someone may recognize it as the same one they have.

Re: trailer weight

I'd use 650-700 lbs for a simple single axle trailer. If you better descriptive specs, we can get you a better guess.

Re: trailer weight

Many thanks for the reply's---Looks like 600#'s is the average guess I get from my outside sources etc. Idaho doesn't require any weights and of course if the trailer did have a sticker on it, it is long gone. The trailer repair place says it should be about 500#'s and other people I have contacted said about 700. So, I'll take the middle road. Seems strange that I really don't have to have a weight slip to prove it's weight. ( by the way the boat weighs 1900.)
Thanks for all of you for responding.

Re: trailer weight

In case you're still keeping an eye on this thread...

Just borrow a trailer from a friend and take it to a weigh station. It doesn't have to be a boat trailer. A flatbed trailer works. I've registered my flatbed trailer about 4 times as homemade to get a sticker for a boat trailer. It works.

Maybe he doesn't want to be dishonest like you.

Besides, a flatbed is MUCH heavier, my 20' steel deck weights 2100 lbs.

You are full of terrible advice.

I thought that this site was for advice, some good and some not so good. I do not think it is for ridiculing or bad mouthing others. Your mother should have taught you that if you can't say something nice then don't say anything. That goes for me too, so only a suggestion :).

Sorry if I offended you, but this guy has been attacking myself, and others here, and he also dispenses bad advice.

My post was 100% honest, and I am looking out for my fellow boaters here.

So you think this site is for bad advice, in addition to the great advice that is offered? How odd.
Your mother should have taught you to not criticize others, I guess both of our mothers failed.

STFU!!! You've been attacking me! That's not what this site is for. I hope an admin finally acts and revokes your account. I've ignored the threads, but get bullied.

I'm not talking about a landscaping trailer here. I'm talking about an old pop-up frame. Tons of people do it because of lost registrations. It's not an sacrilegious act! You are so annoying!
So now you are saying it's legal and right to use a different trailer to get a registration for a boat trailer?!?!?! OK buddy :rolleyes:

I hope an admin bans you for starting crap with everyone, talk about annoying.

Welcome to ignoreville, population you
