Don't know about the copper tube.
On the switch, first you need to use an ohm meter to sort out who it functions.

Test contacts in each position to verify which is active in each position.

May be down=no power
middle=power(constant)
Up=power (momentary)

May feed charging system + start

The tube and fitting are for the hot-air heated automatic choke. Air flows in through the open hole, through a heat exchanger inside, and out through the tube to the choke housing, then into the intake manifold. DO NOT plug it up. If it is defective, fix it. If the heat exchanger is burned through, it will suck exhaust through the choke tube and make it run terrible. If you plug the hole, it will not get the air that should be going through it, which will upset the fuel/air mixture and make it run lousy. Not to mention that the choke won't work.

I have no idea what some genius has cobbled up with the 3-way switch. But I do know that there is supposed to be a spring loaded on-off toggle switch for the electric choke. Yes, there is an electric choke in addition to the hot-air choke.

The book is probably right, if it is the right book. If the wrong book, well.....

Great motors, especially if a manual shift. I have not used the heat exchanger tube for years. I'm not totally convinced that it worked real well when new. Mine only need choking for about 10 secs when first started, so I just do it with the switch.

F_R answered the question. It went to the choke on the carb. The other opening is left open. It is possible that someone removed the automatic choke on the carb, or even replaced the carb

yes but if ur first time running it in a long time may suggest to add more oil more doesnt hurt just when u have none or not enough it burns up the whole thing

did anybody mention changing impeller and checking compression?
