I see smaller wires with #'s on them from 1-4 should I just start from scratch and re wire? thanks

Re: 1985 85hp keeps poping breaker when I turn on ignition

On those engines, the "I" or ignition terminal is only used for powering gauges or other equipment that must be on while the engine is running and off when the engine is stopped. With the ignition switch on, that terminal gets power from the "B" or "Bat" terminal on the ignition switch. SO: look for incorrect wiring or a short in that particular wire.

Then, if nothing shows incorrect, yeah--start from scratch and rewire the engine.

Re: 1985 85hp keeps poping breaker when I turn on ignition

OK I had the green on I ( Ignition) per the manual but something else seems strange guess I will study the manual on the wiring and hope I get it right before the boating season is over. I did notice that the B(battery wire is getting really HOT!!! hopefully I did not do any damage to any expensive parts hope that breaker keeps that from happening
any help in wiring this would be Greatly appreciated or a good schematic from the key switch wiring to wiring the up the CDI'S thanks

Green wire is Choke and attaches to the "C" terminal. This is only energised when you push in on the key while starting. No wonder you were popping the breaker. You were energising the choke solenoid constantly. However, the breaker should not be opening immediately. Obviously, you should be able to energise the choke for 10 seconds or so without popping the breaker. Double check to see if there is a short in the choke solenoid. If there is zero resistance between the choke terminal and the case, then it is shorted and must be replaced. However, if it is functioning normally, then chances are good that it is OK.

According to my references your Blue connection should be hooked to the M terminal, not the I. Here is some of the background info I have.
I have a really useful (1990) Chrysler Force Rigging/Installation manual with some excellent complete ignition diagrams, etc that show the following.
-Red (or red/purple): B
-Blue (or blue/black): M
-White (or black/yellow): M
-Green (or yellow/black): C
-Yellow (or yellow/red): S
Notes: the diagram shows (2) available M terminals to wire to perhaps because of the amount of connections to them.
-The switches shown in these diagrams have an I terminal that can also be marked as an 'A'. This, terminal appears to only be used to supply (switched) ignition voltage between the motors terminal block and the switch for ignition based accessories, such as the O/H buzzer.
Separately: other incoming wires are shown as follows:
-Purple (or gray): to Tachometer (if equipped)
-Black: Ground
-Orange: to overheat buzzer (if equipped....recommended)
Now, there are a few more circling connections back to the switch such as the e-stop/kill switch and from the other side of the O/H buzzer but you didn't mention if you have these devices.
Good Luck

wired it up that way and its still poping the breaker maybe I need to know how that other side is wired up the wires frin the stator on the rail wiht the numbered wires that come from the flywheel to the panel looks strange to me

The colour reference means that the wire in the harness might be either a Red wire or a combo red/purple wire. I think some harnesses used multi-colour wires sometimes so basically either/or. ;)
The black wire does not ground out anywhere on the switch. It is for the underdash terminal block only for your accessories to find ground.
Your terminal block on the motor needs to be grounded to your 12V battery by virtue of the wiring back there.
Once you have it correct at the switch you might want to revisit the connections back onto the motor...it sounds like they might be the culprit.
If you send me a PM I will e-mail these wiring diagrams to you, they are really very concise, descriptive and useful. They are much more specific and concise than what I have referenced in the repair manual. I have had a hard time posting them from the scan due to their file size exceeding the allowable post size limit.;)
