1995 130hp Johnson replacing stator

I am in the process of replacing the stator and voltage regulator.I am replacing them because my tachometer was not working and it was not charging my battery.My question is,is there anything else I should check before I start the engine.I do not want to damage the new regulator or stator.I have a manual but don't see anything else in there that I should check.

Only thing I can add is disconnect the battery or you'll fry the reg' instantly.

Thanks for the reply.Everything seems to be working good.I was just a little nervous about hitting the key that first time.I sure hate to have forgotten something and burn those new expensive parts up right off the bat.
