Hello everyone!

I'm thinking about buying this outboard motor including remote controls. It's a 70hp Evinrude. I'm not sure of the year of build. Maybe someone can tell me?

I'd like to know if someone knows any points I have to be aware of, any impairments, fuel economy, etc. All info about this outboard is welcome.

See the attachments for the pictures.

You have to know what year it is, KB. Those 70s have been made for over 30 years and are not all the same.

Give us the model number. That looks like an old one.

Re: Evinrude 70hp. To buy or not to buy?

I managed to get the year of manufacture, it's a 1974 Evinrude. '74 was the first year that Evinrude built 70 hp's.

The seller told me the impeller is defect, should this be an easy fix to do on my own on this size of outboards?

Now knowing the year of manufacture, someone could answer my previous questions??

With any used motor you need to check it's basic health before considering a purchase. Compression, spark, cooling and lower unit oil. Read the top secret files for more info on these items.
The impeller is a relatively easy fix however if it has been run with a defective impeller then there could be a lot more damage than it's worth.
As for fuel economy, when running WOT it will relieve you of about 7 gallons per hour.

BUYING A USED MOTOR

overall condition, condition of the place you are buying it from, usually tells you how they care for things. compression 100 + psi, and within 10% of each other, good strong blue spark, no water in the lower unit oil. look for discolored paint, (sign of over heat at
one time, also scarred up bolts, as why. have them start it. if they fail to put it in a barrell or tank, or on muffs, or in the water, to start it they don't know what they are doing. best yet is to take it for a 30 min to 1 hour test run. also if remote controlled motor, the controls should come with it.

Hi guys!

Because of the shady seller, the year of built of this motor and the missing of the remote controls I decided to stop bidding for this motor.

Thanks for your help!
