Where does all the wiring from your stuff go to? If everything is going to a fuse block, then you need to hook the fuse block up to the battery.

everything goes to the fuse block.... then wires everywhere to my eye. there is also another cable that actually looks like a battery cable but it has the smaller holes in the end.. there is also a black round box near the fuse box that has what looks like one end of the batter cable hooked to. it reads on it .. numbver 1, number 2... both and off>>> it has a rotating switch,.. i know i am probaly confusing the heck out of you.. but thanks

That is your battery switch, does it go to your batteries?

when i bought it only one battey, that was hooked directly to the motors batter cables back at the back of the boat... this is located under the center consol, near the fuse box. it looks like there are staps there for a second battery??

much like a car a heavy gauge cable goes to the starter and a ground cable , then the motor has wiring back out to the fuse panel ,to the ignition switch and thru the various circuits for all the other stuff.

the battey is connected directly to the cables coming right from the ob motor, everything up front is not connected to anything. so the elec start, motor and shifter are all connected by the motor, connected to the battery. all up in the ctr consol are run to a fuse box, then looks like to the battery switch which you mentioned earlier.

thank you

I had about the same situation on my "new" boat-
Start with the Stickys at top of page & pray for the patience to trace it all down :(

It sounds like there used to be 2 batteries installed.

The negatives would be connected and go to the motor, and somewhere up front.

the positives were connected to your "A/B/Both" switch, and then the "Common" from that switch went to the Motor, and also to the fuse box.

Some reason, the A/b switch has been bypassed, and the feed line to the fuse box is not connected.

If you are a lucky man, it was because the guy wanted the batteries, and dumped an extra in the boat, bypassing all the stuff. Did you see the electronics working before you bought it? if so, he wanted the batteries.

If you are not so lucky, here are some things:

1. the A/B switch does not work / he took the heavy guage wires (approx 1/2 Inch diameter) which would allow you to use the switch.

2. The fuse box or the wiring beyond the fuse box has one or many shorts in it.

What I would do.
1. See if there is a wire that goes from the fuse box (normally a single bolt on the top or bottom (nearest the fuses) and makes its way back to the battery, just hanging there, or near the "common" on the A/B switch. if this is there, you can try connecting it and see if that solves your accessory problems.
If that wire is not there, you may have to pull a new one. If the wire goes to the common on the A/B switch, and will not reach the battery, find if the switch is usable.
Once you have figured this out, you may have to troubleshoot the fusebox circuitry.

2. See if there are 2 wires, big ones, 1/2", Red, hanging out near the A/B switch. these should be connected to the #1 and #2 connections.

if they are there, connect both to the Positive.

See if there is anything connected to the "common" if there is, turn the switch to the both, and see if anything works, see if you get 12v at the common lug.

if that works, switch the positive from the motor, to the common.

You can use this basis to start to re-assemble your system.

THANKS SO MUCH!!! I WILL NOW ROLL UP MY SLEEVES AND LET YOU KNOW.. I DID NOT SEE THE ELECTRONICS WORK... JUST THE MOTOR STARTED AND RAN. THERE ARE THOSE HEAVY GAUGE WIRES IN WHERE THE BATTERY SWITCH IS LOCATED, LOOK LIKE BATTERY CABLE WIRES WITH THE ROUND ENDS ON THEM WITH THE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE. I WILL LET YOU KNOW

Re: electrical help needed by all thumbs boater

the wires coming from the battery (yes with the flat connectors with the holes in them) should be red and go to the switch. the two to attach to the battery will be going to the #1 and #2 connectors on the big orange A/B switch.

Work slowly to ensure you don't short anything out. there is a lot of power in a battery (you can weld with it if interested )

take pictures if you are not sure.

Since you never saw the electronics working, there may be problems up front, if you know how to use a meter, use it to confirm you don't short anything out.
