Hey guys been a while since i was last here but could use some help.
My dad picked up this motor 61 18hp. Put new points coils conds. and carb kit on but it still doesn't seem to run right. I can get it to idle down and run pretty slow but there is still lots room before it even gets close to touching the idle screw. Looking on this site i found out that it doesn't have the right plugs in it. it has j6 and i think it should have j4s?? I am trying to find where it should sync. I read that the butterfly should start to open when the roller is at the line on the cam. is this right? and how do you adjust it? Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats right. Not sure of the adjust but I believe it should be fairly obvious.
If the roller assembly has no adjustment on it then perhaps the cam itself
does.Have you adjusted the high and low speed needle valves on the carb?

yes i have adjusted the high and low. The motor is sitting in my garbage can so it makes it hard to open up. tend to lose the water. But the thing that bugs me is that when you slow it down it quits before it hits the stop screw for the idle adjustment. going to the lake tomorrow.

Ok here is a question. How important is the setting of the coils under the flywheel? When I first put the flywheel on they were draging on it so I moved them back as far as they would go. would this make a big differance.
