68 johnson 40hp super seahorse/ think I made a mistake

was checking the lower unit oil and pulled some sort of pin screw at the bottom do I need to crack the bottom open to get this screw/pin back in?

phillips head screw, you have a 10% chance of getting it back in place, without cracking.

10% is gone I believe will I need a new gasket?

some guys say they can do it by laying the motor on its side then fishing for it with a wire, line it up and insert the screw.

good thought what is that anyway? I did not see any other way to drain the lower unit it has the fill up top and the only screw at the bottom was that dang phillips head. I also notice this motor does not have a kill switch on it has a toggle switch with a red and black wire comming out of it but have no Idea were it goes looks like they had it to the starter. but there is no silonied in the thing

Look on the very bottom of the skeg for a large flat head screw (identicle to the fill screw). That is the drain.

I did I'll look again but I don't see one on either side going to lay it on its side and I think I can get it in was able to silde it up with my dental tools but drops back down since its sitting on the rack. does it just slide behind that what have you or is there a hole Im looking for to slide it through also did a pilimanary cop check both cylinders are at 110psi what was factory 150?

Yup, I've done it that way with success. It's worth a try and you have nothing to lose. Make sure to replace the seal when you put it back in.

Yes, there is a hole. You may have to GENTLY move the shift lever to get it to line up.
